As we drive south, we notice the increasing Mexican influence, from people to street and city names. As a result, I will blog in Spanish from now on. You can find translation tools on the web to help you make sense of it all… Es una broma! (just kidding!)
So, what happened since last time? Well, we had a very nice breakfast at Pat’s Cafe, a few blocks away from the overcrowded Fisherman’s Wharf and did some more strolling in the city of San Francisco. I don’t think there is any flat piece of asphalt in San Francisco! Everything is up or down, it seems! We went back to the famous Lombard street, to better check it out. It took some serious walking up (of course) to even get to the bottom of the famous switchback stretch. From that vantage point, you can appreciate how f*ed up this street is!! Not sure who thought of it or why, but I’m pretty certain alcohol or drug was involved!!
Talking about drugs, I must be on something, because I suggested we drive down Lombard street! After our stroll, we got back to the hotel and checked out. As we left the city, I thought it would be a good idea to do what – it seems – all tourists do, i.e. drive down Lomdard street… Ally agreed until I told her she would be the driver, as I had to tape the event on my camera (which I conveniently am the only one capable of operating…).
We did it! It took 2’41” from top to bottom, including the traffic jams… It was fun! If technology allows me, I will try to share the HD video of the event…
We then proceeded to leave San Francisco behind and head souther (of course this is a word!).
The idea was to be in Pismo Beach by night, with a stop in Half Moon Bay, Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea.The drive was again magnificent along the coast. Of the three stops, which were all very enjoyable, Carmel was definitely the best! Even though it was late by the time we got to Carmel, the quaintness of the town was apparent. Lots of trees, lots of stop signs, lots of art galleries and a beautiful beach… I’ll be back! (this joke is getting old but what the hell!)
We also stopped in Santa Cruz for a burger in a cool place that I will not name because their burgers were not very good (search ‘burger santa cruz’ in Google if you really want to know). This is proof that a cool place, a great concept and website are nothing if your food is not good!
It was late (10:15 pm) when we checked in at the Pismo Lighthouse Suites. The large room was welcome after a long drive!
Today, we woke up under heavy fog (which is apparently frequent in coastal places). After a good breakfast, we headed for the beach, just down the cliff for a long stroll, snapping pictures like there was no tomorrow! My friends the pelicans are here!! I’m so excited!!! Other bird species included seagulls, turkey vultures, cormorans, funny-little-bird-that-looks-like-a-small-seagull-with-a-straight-beak and surfers…
I’m ready for a nap right now…
Later.
