Fog, Cheese & Sand

Today was a transit day, with us finally leaving Cannon Beach for our next destination.

We left under a heavy fog, that prevented us from seeing the sun rise… That was good, since I probably rose after the sun did, anyways… Bad habits die hard!!

Unsurprisingly, driving along the coast under heavy fog is not very exciting…

We made due by stopping in Chillamook, home of the Tillamook Cheese!! Yeah!!! Cheese!!! (I’m faking excitement here…) If you like rubbery cheese, like cheddar, this is a must-stop… One more check-mark on my bucket list…

The next stop was Depoe Bay, the world’s Smallest Harbor. If you don’t believe me, check this out:

Because size isn’t everything, Depoe Bay is a pleasant harbor, with nice seagulls and whales (1 spotted today, but not by us…).

The fog hung around for most of the day, so that we could enjoy life in shades of gray… The ocean is beautiful, whatever the conditions, nonetheless!

The fog gave in late in the afternoon, revealing the beauty of the Oregon coast.

Arriving at our final destination, Florence (Oregon), we got to see the beginning of a peculiar natural phenomenon: sand dunes. Starting North of Florence, and extending several miles to the South, sand dunes have crept inland, close to the city and roads.

We will check out some more of those tomorrow!!

Checking in at the Riverhouse Inn, we ran into a large number of vintage cars. Apparently, a hot-rod convention is coming to town this week-end.

The Acura TSX we’re driving is from 2005, but I’m from 1972… Does that count?

Note: The Oregon Ducks seem to be huge around here… Not sure why…

Later.
