Vamos a Pismo Playa

As we drive south, we notice the increasing Mexican influence, from people to street and city names. As a result, I will blog in Spanish from now on. You can find translation tools on the web to help you make sense of it all… Es una broma! (just kidding!) So, what happened since last time? Well, we had a very nice breakfast at Pat’s Cafe, a few blocks away from the overcrowded Fisherman’s Wharf and did some more strolling in […]

Head Over Hills in San Francisco

Two days ago was our last day in the Sonoma/Napa area… Our first order of the day was to check out the ‘Seed Bank’  we had noticed the first day we were in Petaluma. “Seed Bank?”, you may ask… No, this is not a specialty clinic we used to fund our trip… The seed bank is simply a store selling seeds, which happens to be located in an old bank. Very nice building, full of seeds, and plant-lovers… I have […]

Oye Sonoma

Another good couple of days under the Californian sun of the Napa and Sonoma region… We eased into it with a tour of the Mumm Napa winery before the noon hour. I have no problem drinking champagne in the morning! Mumm, originally from the Champagne region in France, decided to expand their horizon and picked the particular spot of Los Carneros in the Sonoma region to grow grapes and emulate the sparkling wine made in France. The tour was very […]

In Wine We Trust

Our week started like that: we were having breakfast in the VIP room (privilege of being away from home on business for most of the year…) on the 4th floor balcony, when a man came out on the phone, talking about to someone arriving on a flight to meet him for a barrel tasting… The gentleman apologized for disrupting our breakfast and we told him that we would like to do a barrel tasting during our stay, as well… Next […]

Humboldt County Correctional Facility

It’s been a couple of days since I last blogged, and quite a bit has happened. For ease of reading, and for my own sake, I’ll list the items as a bullet-point list: Forgot to tell you that we saw a black bear in Florence the other day! He – or she (I didn’t check…) – crossed the road 50 yards from the car… Unexpected and a little freaky! Did not have time to get my camera, amongst the flurry […]

The Incredible Elk

Yesterday was another travel day, from Florence, Oregon, to California. After a very nice strong coffee at Siuslaw River Coffee Roasters in the old town of Florence, we headed south for the dunes. Indeed, a lot of sand!!     We continued on the windy US-101 for most of the day, followed by the resilient layer of fog, that the sun was trying to conquer in vain. A lot of amazing vistas along the way… Damn elks, they shot our […]

Fog, Cheese & Sand

Today was a transit day, with us finally leaving Cannon Beach for our next destination. We left under a heavy fog, that prevented us from seeing the sun rise… That was good, since I probably rose after the sun did, anyways… Bad habits die hard!! Unsurprisingly, driving along the coast under heavy fog is not very exciting… We made due by stopping in Chillamook, home of the Tillamook Cheese!! Yeah!!! Cheese!!! (I’m faking excitement here…) If you like rubbery cheese, […]

Life is a Beach, Cannon Beach!

Beach life is the way to go, people!! After a delicious breakfast at ‘Lazy Susan Cafe’, we headed for a stroll on the beach, where we spent the next 2 hours walking, enjoying the freedom, the sun, the breeze and the scenery! A great start of a day, if you ask me!! We spent the rest of the day wondering along Hemlock street (did I mention that this city only has 1 street??), checking out art galleries, candy stores, shoe […]
