Patrice de Villiers – Craftswoman

If you are finding your photography is not where you’d like it to be, you should get some inspiration from Patrice de Villiers.

From Jewellery, to Food or Shoes, PDV brings a high level of professionalism and a keen eye for great compositions. If you like people with attention to details, you found your woman… Obsession is her middle name!

  • Who would have thought I would say ‘wow’ looking at 7 sausages?

  • Who would have thought you could stack 6 sandwiches on top of each other?

  • Who would have thought 2 rounds of meat could be sexy?

What do you I learn from this photographer? That you need 2 components for every photograph:

  • Great idea,
  • Amazing technique.

(And hard work, of course…)

Asked to define her approach to doing her thing, here is what PDV had to say:

There’s a point at which the object in front of the camera should transcend how it’s generally perceived, either by design, serendipity or a fortuitous mixture of both of the above. I visualize my ideas on paper first, trying to get rid of the obvious and develop a more interesting way of seeing the subject or in this case combining unlikely elements within the same image so they appear naturally linked. Mostly it’s about observation, what makes this object so special, what may have been overlooked that I can see when I look closely or simply try to see it in a different light. Many of my images may appear quite different because of this approach; it’s the subject matter that’s the hero, not necessarily a particular brand technique imposed on everything regardless. Sometimes you get it right, on other occasions the definitive shot eludes you. Its constantly getting back on the horse, you never truly know when you’ve taken your best ever shot so you keep shooting. It’s where the drive comes from, that one glorious day you may achieve perfection.

Patrice de Villiers’ pictures remind us that Photography is Beautiful and Fun!!! Thank you for the reminder, I often forget the second part…
